Factions on Mars

Man is in the early stages of terraforming Mars to their needs. The process is hampered by various factions fighting over resources and power. Communications with Earth and The Lunar Colonies are slowly failing, making the situation even more chaotic.

Below you will find a short description of the five major factions on Mars.

The Commonwealth of Mars (C-Mars):

Mostly populated by people originally from India and Great Britain, but there are also families hailing from the rest of the old Commonwealth back on Earth. They have a professional army consisting mostly of Ghurkas and Sikhs.

Location: Valles Marineris, west

Population: 9 872 657 souls

Capitol: New Varanasi

AI:GANGES

New Kalmar-Mars (NKal-Mars):
The residents of Nkal-Mars are originally from one of the old Nordic countries, but there are also some people from the old Baltic countries. You can also find a few from northern parts of Germany. Nkal-Mars have at the moment a semi-professional army called the Tyrian Legions.

Location: Hellas Planitia, an impact basin 7 Km deep and 2300 Km wide.

Population: 4 123 394 souls

Capitol: New Kalmar City

AI: THE ALL-FATHER

Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on Mars (USSRM):

People in USSRM are mostly from Russia or one of the other countries that was a part of the old Soviet Union back on Earth. They have a professional army consisting of Spetsnaz and other elemtents from the Red Army.

Location: Caves near Arsia Mons

Population: 3 239 584 souls

Capitol: Mamoht

AI: MOTHER

Elysium City (EC):

Elysium differs from the rest of the cities on Mars, since it was founded by megacorporations and private
entrepreneurs – not from collaborations between different nations back on Earth. Several security companies have their HQ in Elysium, but they have no standing army of their own.

Location: Valles Marineris, East

Population: 1 243 400 souls

Capitol: N/A

AI: ALT

The Trans-American Martian Union (TAMU):

This Union consist of people from U.S.A and some countries from South America, mainly Brasil and Mexico. They have a professional army with many veterans from wars back on Earth.

Location: Argyre Planitia

Population: 8 345 984 souls

Capitol: Horizon

AI: INTR3PID

Drifters, Nomads, Raiders, Hermits and Vagabonds:

Location: Nowhere and everywhere

Population: Unknown

Capitol: There are rumours about a moving city called Mobile .

Who's what on Mars

There will be a lot of replicants, robots, androids, genetical enhanced humans and other fun stuff in our game. I felt there were a need to do a write-up on the subject, just so my players could better distinguish the different kinds of things moving around on Mars.

Replicants: They look like humans but they are not a product of human breeding, instead they are lab-grown bodies with a brain. If you have the technology they are easy and cheap to manufacture and maintain.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vat_grown_meat). They are genetical engineered to perform tasks in enviroments that ordinary humans can't handle. They are also programmed to live for only twenty years maximum. There are no facilities on Mars made for production of replicants, they have been imported from Earth and The Lunar Colonies.

Robots: Machines and nothing more - programmed to perform certain tasks and that's it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robots). There are many kinds of robots, from the simple vacuum cleaner to the advanced terraforming machines roaming Mars. The cost to manufacture and maintain them also varies , but it can be difficult to get spareparts on Mars.

AI: Highly advanced computer programs able to reason and learn from their actions, so they can better plan how to achieve maximum success (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence). They are highly perceptive and can communicate with humans. They have usually no kind of body, so their movement are limited to the network they are connected with. There are five of them on Mars.

Android: There are very few androids around, mostly because they are extremely expensive and difficult to make, even if you have the technology. An Android is best described as an AI with a humanlike robotic body (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_%28robot%29). There are only one present on Mars (a PC) as far as anyone knows.

Cyborgs: Most humans on Mars are in fact some kind of Cyborg. It is common to have an implant or two to enhance certain abilities that are import for their survival on Mars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyborg). Some even have gone so far that most of their body have been replaced by machine parts.

Genetical enchanced humans:
The first families to colonize the red planet were all genetical engineered, making them more adapted for life on Mars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetical_engineering). Descendants from the first colonist have inherited many of the same traits, making them stand apart from normal humans. They are often treated as superior humans (at least in their own minds), and they are usually members of the upper social strata of Mars.
